Emergency Financial Assistance Program

At ÆßÉ«ÊÓƵnical Community College, we understand that unexpected financial hardships can make it difficult for students to continue their education. The Emergency Financial Assistance Program provides a one-time grant to help students cover essential expenses and stay on track toward completing their academic and career goals. Assistance is granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for assistance, students must:

  • Be enrolled and active in an eligible curriculum program or an approved Continuing Education certificate program (must be at least 6 months long and lead to a Diploma or Certificate).
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above (if applicable).
  • Have not previously received assistance through the Emergency Financial Assistance Program.
  • Be experiencing an unforeseen financial emergency that puts them at risk of being unable to continue their education.
  • Provide the required documentation for the requested expense.
Eligible Expenses & Maximum Assistance Amounts

Students may request help with one of the following expenses:

  • Rent/Mortgage: Up to $500 (must provide a late letter from landlord/mortgage company and a copy of lease/mortgage statement).
  • Utilities (electricity, natural gas, water, internet – no cable): Up to $300 (must submit full past-due bill, no screenshots).

  • Car Repairs: Up to $250 (must submit itemized repair estimate; completed repairs cannot be reimbursed).

Application Process

Students may apply for assistance by using their Student Email login credentials. After submitting the application, students will be contacted to schedule a meeting.

If you have any questions before applying, please email the program administrator, Karen Mosley-Lyon, or call at (919) 536-7200 ext. 1408.

Emergency Loan Option

Students who are receiving a Pell Grant refund may apply for an emergency loan of up to $1,000 to help cover expenses. A Promise to Pay Document must be signed, and a hold will be placed on the student’s account until the loan is repaid through their refund. Checks will not be made out to students—no exceptions.
